About the Artist

Neil Jansen

American Naïve Artist

Neil attended Pratt Institute and holds a graphic design/marketing degree from Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, Florida.

Neil classifies himself as an American Naïve Artist. The naïve artist cannot be copied. Naive artists are genuine personalities distinguished by an original and unmistakable stylistic independence.

Upon graduation, Neil fulfilled his military obligation with service in the US Army. Assignments included the States, Korea and Japan.

In Korea, Neil was assigned to Special Services to develop strategic visual aids used in classroom training classes.

While in Korea, Neil continued to paint, holding evening art classes in a makeshift studio for anyone who was interested in learning how to paint.

Neil won first prize in the Army Far Eastern art contest, with several hundred submissions entered from Korea, Japan, Wake Island and Hawaii. His winning painting was exhibited in the DeYoung in San Francisco.

After the military, Neil returned home to New York to begin his career in marketing and advertising on Madison Avenue. After a few short years as an Art Director, National Distillers Products Corp asked Neil to join them as National Promotion Manager.

Over a twenty five year career, Neil developed promotional campaigns for many of the companies leading distilled spirits. On a lighter side, Neil was part of the team that developed DcKuyper Peachtree Schnapps and the "FUZZY NAVEL" cocktail.

Neil has also designed counters and spas for leading New York City department stores for high end products including La Prairie, Kanebo, Anna Sui, and Urban Decay, to name a few. Neil's work has been seen in Bloomingdales, Sakes 5th and Bergdorf Goodman.

Neil has left the "madness" of Madison Ave to enjoy painting full time in South Carolina.
